Where to stay in Naples

As many of you know, Naples is not an easy city to find a place to sleep if you go there for the first time. Our historical alternations have meant that the rich and infamous areas alternate seamlessly, so maybe you have to turn the wrong corner that in the evening could be a problem. I do not want to say that Naples for tourists is an unsafe place, indeed, in recent years it has improved a lot and especially the Historical Center has become welcoming and safe. But in some cases being in certain areas can make us feel unpleasant.

Where to stay in Naples, best and cheapest places to stay

Avoid places near the Central Station: they are the cheapest places of all, there are also lovely hotels, but I do not recommend sleeping there because if you plan to go home on foot in the evening, it could be dangerous, in any case to me that area is very degraded, an open-air construction site, always chaotic, noisy and dirty, in short, I do not suggest it to you.

If it is the first time you go to Naples I recommend you to stay in the historic centre, so you can move on foot almost to go anywhere and then you will find yourself in the beating heart of the city. Naples, having been built first by the Greeks and then by the Romans, has a very very visible decuman, which we still call Decuman or Spaccanapoli because it precisely divides the city centre in two. In reality, the centre is developed on the 3 main decumans, the upper, major and lower ones, wherever you decide to sleep in this area is excellent.

Residenza Matilde: super new structure, in an ancient convent of the 1400s. A very well-kept and elegant b & b where times and columns of period tuff have been found. It is located in the historic centre, a stone’s throw from the Church of Santa Chiara, it will allow you to move on foot. My friend Matilde’s (hence the name) belongs to my friend. Put it in the notes that I send you 😉 in Naples it always counts… apart from the jokes, you will have included in the living room also the included access to the Bourbon Gallery which is one of the most beautiful treasures and hidden we have,

Nanà B&B: you will not be near or a few steps from the historical centre, you will be the historical centre! Its unique voices, sounds, smells and flavours, among the monuments and squares that every tourist wants to reach in Naples. Very cheerful decor, very bright B&B.

BB Casamatta: ancient noble house in the historic centre, renovated as a luxury B&B, the floors and furnishings are beautiful. This place has a unique secret, i.e. inside it, it has a cocktail bar also open to the public, a unique way to immerse yourself in the Neapolitan family atmosphere.

La Smorfia: a stone’s throw from San Gregorio Armeno, a place of great charm, it takes the entire floor of a beautiful Bourbon palace. Refined and elegant furniture, there is the nice detail that each room has a number and therefore name corresponding to the Neapolitan grimace.

Donna Maria Suites: if you have seen Napoli Velata you will love this place, frescoes, barrel vaults, small courtyards in which to have breakfast, a beautiful patio with tuff stairs. Each room is furnished with antiques, but with a contemporary line, many places have a jacuzzi.

San Francesco al Monte: this hotel has become very famous in recent years also among us Neapolitans, many go there to celebrate an anniversary or even just for dinner. It is located on Corso Vittorio Emanuele, what was the ring road of Naples in the Bourbon era, in practice it is above the historic centre. The main advantage is the view. It practically embraces the whole city, both the historical part and the sea. It is a former convent converted into a true luxury hotel with a gourmet restaurant that I would certainly recommend to you.

Doremì Terrace: very lovely and well-kept B&B, but the large terrace gives the real added value. In Naples, having the opportunity to have breakfast on the terrace or maybe just stop to relax in the open air makes the difference, especially in the historic centre.
Casa Frangiò: a truly beautiful structure, furnished in a modern and welcoming way, my favourite part is the large and spacious living room, you will be transformed in a few days into a doc.

Just Sleep: a stone’s throw from Piazza Dante, a small structure with only 3 rooms all well-kept and modern, the staff is very helpful.

Paladin Home: in Piazzetta Nilo nel cuore artistico and also full of clubs in the historic centre. Inside an ancient building, this house has cross vaults and welcoming details.

The sight of Naples is certainly one of the most beautiful spectacles of creation. Years ago, a friend of mine from Chicago, while walking on a Vespa, said to me “Fran, but why do you go on vacation, you already have everything here!” Our gulf never tires you, and we love being “face or sea” facing the sea, think a little about being able to sleep there. The Lungomare di Napoli is where the most famous and luxurious hotels in the city are located, the iconic ones where all the greatest celebrities of all time have been. Still, there are also some beautiful and often really convenient new accommodations

Mareluna Suite de Charme: this place is truly a gem, a unique experience I would say. It is located right on Via Partenope, has very few rooms and is well-kept, it seems to be on a boat because you open the window and see the sea. You can choose to have the room with Capri view or with Castel dell’ ‘ Ovo view, or maybe both. Super recommended, among other things, it is my friend Edgardo’sEdgardo’s if you go, go ahead and send it to me.

Areamare: reflects its name, its strategic position a few steps from the Lungomare Caracciolo allows the visitor to be able to stop in a quiet and sunny area while staying in a characteristic and authentic structure. Enjoy the “Lungomare Liberato” or the pedestrian area, in the early morning take a walk with the most beautiful view ever and have an unhurried coffee.

Hotel Royal Continental: one of the historic hotels on the Lungomare, exactly in front of the Castel dell’ ‘ Ovo, each room has a balcony with a view, as well as being welcoming, I tell you an anecdote, in 2012 I was in London for the first time at the WTM, the world tourism fair, and by chance, I attend the awarding of the best hotel in the world for the sustainability of waste disposal and guess who won? You cannot imagine the emotion in seeing that the winning hotel was Neapolitan! For this reason, alone, I would say 10 points.

Relais Piazza Vittoria: truly luxurious and intimate, the owners have indulged themselves in modern art, there are beautiful paintings inspired by Naples and some rooms even have a bathtub in the room. Accommodation for eccentrics

Hotel Excelsior: do you want to live your princess dream and have a drink while someone plays the piano seeing the sunset behind Castel Dell’ Dell’ ovo? Then this is the place for you. Very traditional, very luxurious, very elegant.

Partenope Relais: let’slet’s say that the owners love cinema as there are giant prints of famous movie scenes of all time in every room. Very elegant, very modern and with a beautiful sea view.

Regina Margherita Suite: halfway between the sea and the historic centre, is located behind the Maschio Angioino, this relais is well-kept, very modern and has a beautiful sunny patio where you can relax.

Grand Hotel Vesuvio: last but not least, perhaps the most beautiful hotel in the city, the place where thousands of people got married, one of the most unforgettable terraces ever. Five stars sea view, historic hotel, very famous and elegant.

Chiaia:

Where to stay in Naples

This place what we call the centre, but not the historic centre or as you will hear a Neapolitan “down ( giù )”. Yes because “down” is the abbreviation of “down in Chiaia” since this district runs alongside the sea and develops almost totally in the plain unlike the Vomero di Posillipo and the Historical Center which are more hilly

Chiaia is a “local” place in the sense that it is frequented almost exclusively by Neapolitans as there are few tourist attractions. It is located at the centre of luxury and designer shopping and in this area it is full of restaurants and “bars” (like we call them) trendy. It is a safe and elegant area where to stay. It is well connected. You can easily reach many other areas on foot.

Belledonne Suite & Gallery: is a B&B with an elegant and refined style. In the heart of Vico Belledonne in Chiaia, this simple but refined structure is ideal for those who want to experience Naples in their daily lives, a few steps from Piazza dei Martiri, Piazza del Plebiscito and the historic centre of the city.

Belledonne Suite & Gallery: luxury apartment, elegant modern style and with great attention to detail, allows you to be in the commercial heart of Naples, close to a lot of excitement and a few steps from the historical beauties.

Rodinò B&B: takes its name from the square that hosts it, its characteristic is the centrality of the position that hosts it this structure is located 600 meters from Piazza del Plebiscito and 800 meters from the Royal Palace, ideal for those who prefer to stay surrounded by a suggestive atmosphere. Personal advice, do not miss sweets or rustics of the famous Bar Cimmino right there and in the evening aperitif at the Social Cellars, always in the square.

Palazzo Alabardieri: wonderful (poetic license) luxury palace in the heart of Chiaia, it is an almost hidden treasure, walking you will be able to see its magnificent courtyard, but only by entering will you understand what I mean. A true gift of elegance

Posillipo:

Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in Naples, it is a green hill overlooking the sea, at its feet, there is a marine reserve, small villages of sailors, houses with private descent. but in addition to the landscape, it is quite isolated, unless decide to contemplate the gulf, spend the mornings between kayaking and swimming. I advise you not to choose it at least for your first time. because you will necessarily need a car, moped or taxi to reach the rest of the city. There is also public transport, but only 2 are on a rail and in Naples wheel vehicles are never know when they arrive.

Primo Piano Posillipo: dream place, I admit that I would like to live there, perfectly studied in detail by an architect, obviously with a sea view, large, spacious and silent.

Don n’Anna B&B Room With a View: do you know when I said above that there are incredible private houses with super exclusive views? Here this is one of those. Exactly on the side of Palazzo Don n’Anna, a small balcony to have a coffee in the sun and if you want to swim in 2 minutes.

Beautiful House in Cozy Garden: this apartment is very nice, in perfect posillipino style with a garden with Vietri majolica.

Independent room in Big Villa with pool & sea: as the announcement suggests, it is an independent room in a beautiful Posillipina villa with swimming pool and access to the sea.

Interior 11: wonderful apartment in a super elegant building right on via Posillipo, the interiors are well-kept and elegant.

Marechiaro 36: a unique experience of sleeping in the small village of Marechiaro, a magical place that inspired the famous song “a Finestrella”.

Vomero:

This is also a very local neighborhood, it is mainly famous for shopping, among the very beautiful things you can do here is the Certosa di San Martino and the Castel Sant Elmo. Unlike Posillipo it is connected much better, I would take it only consider if you find lovely accommodation with a view.

Mooks Book & Bed: the first hotel library in Europe. Mondadori has taken up a Japanese concept of having a bookcase where you can also sleep and has transformed Mooks. Its beautiful bookshop in Piazza Vanvitelli into the first Book & Bed, wherewith only € 44 per night you can relax and consult many books. Even the library itself has relaxation areas where people can comfortably waste their time between reading and idleness.

B&B Luca Giordano: beautiful, elegant apartment, bright and well furnished, it also has a sea view room

B&B Solimena: 4 rooms, large spacious and modern in the centre of the Vomero commercial area

Eco di Napoli: beautiful structure, very well furnished, small details that reflect Italian and Neapolitan traditions, good breakfast, shared outdoor area, both for breakfast and relaxation, there is also a jacuzzi which in winter cover with a beautiful igloo.
